Alloco fritters, West African plantain-based dessert served

Alloco Fritters

Alloco fritters are a popular West African dessert made from plantains. Plantains are a starchy type of banana that is often cooked, baked, or fried in Africa. Alloco fritters are easy to make and are crispy on the outside and soft, sweet, and flavorful on the inside. They are often served by street vendors or as a snack at home, drizzled with honey, chocolate sauce, or even fruits. This delicacy is a perfect choice for breakfast or as a dessert if you like tropical flavors and crispy bites.

    Preparation Steps

    1

Peel the ripe plantains and mash them with a fork until you achieve a pulpy consistency.

    2

In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

    3

Add the mashed plantains and water to the dry ingredients, then mix until smooth, forming a thick batter.

    4

In a large skillet or pot, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches approximately 340°F (170°C).

    5

Using a spoon or your hands, form small balls of batter and carefully drop them into the hot oil.

    6

Fry the Alloco fritters for 3-5 minutes, until golden brown and crispy. Flip them halfway through for even cooking.

    7

Remove the fritters and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.

    8

Serve warm, drizzled with honey, chocolate sauce, or fresh fruit.
