Apple Fritter served with powdered sugar

Apple Fritter

Apple Fritters are a beloved treat in American bakeries, a perfect combination of apple pie and doughnuts. They began to spread in the 19th century, when apples were baked in sweet dough, creating a dessert that was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Today, there are many variations, but the classic version flavored with cinnamon is the most popular. If you love apple desserts and easy-to-make fried treats, be sure to try this recipe!

    Preparation Steps

    1

Peel and dice the apples into small cubes, then toss them with lemon juice to prevent browning.

    2

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.

    3

In a separate bowl, whisk the egg, then add the milk and vanilla extract. Mix well.

    4

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently mix until just combined. Do not overmix; the batter should be thick.

    5

Fold in the diced apples into the batter until evenly distributed.

    6

In a deep pot or fryer, heat the oil to 350°F (180°C). Test the oil temperature by dropping a small amount of batter into it – if it immediately rises to the top and fries gently, the oil is ready.

    7

Using a tablespoon or small ice cream scoop, drop small mounds of batter into the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes on each side, until golden brown.

    8

Remove the fritters and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Let them cool slightly.

    9

Dust generously with powdered sugar and serve warm for the perfect treat.
