Avocado bao bun served

Avocado Bao Buns

Avocado is a globally popular superfood, added into many modern dishes due to its exceptional creaminess and rich nutrient content. The bao bun – this soft, steamed Asian dough – is a perfect carrier for the avocado's soft texture and the lime dressing's freshness. Fresh, crispy vegetables such as carrot and lettuce perfectly balance the avocado's softness. The dressing is made with lime juice and garlic, which adds a tangy and spicy character to the dish. As the bao bun softens in warm steam and the creamy slices of avocado melt into the dressing, they create a unique combination of textures and flavors. This dish is a perfect choice for spring or summer lunches, light dinners, or even a quick welcome for guests. Try it with toasted sesame seeds or a little chili on top!

    Preparation Steps

    1

Peel the carrot and cut into julienne strips. Tear the lettuce leaves into smaller pieces by hand. Halve, pit, and peel the avocados, then thinly slice them.

    2

Grate or finely chop the garlic and mix it with lime juice and olive oil in a small bowl. This will be the dressing that we'll use just before serving.

    3

Steam the bao buns in a bamboo steamer or covered over a metal sieve for 6–8 minutes. Don't open them in between to maintain their fluffiness.

    4

Carefully open the warm bao buns and place lettuce leaves in the bottom, then layer with carrot and avocado slices.

    5

Drizzle with the dressing, then sprinkle with black sesame seeds and garnish with microgreens. Serve immediately to prevent the avocado from browning.

Tip: If you like, you can make it spicier with a few drops of sriracha sauce or freshly ground black pepper on top.
