Baked apple and honey scones served

Baked Apple and Honey Scones

The natural sweetness of baked apples and the delicate taste of honey are combined in a truly special scone. The cinnamon and crumbly dough are the perfect complement to this mouth-watering pastry. TIP: For an even richer flavor experience, add a handful of chopped nuts to the dough. To keep the scone light, do not overmix the dough! These baked apple and honey scones are the perfect choice with a cup of hot tea or coffee, and are ideal as a breakfast or afternoon treat.

    Preparation Steps

    1

Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

    2

Peel and dice the apple into small cubes. Place on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes, or until slightly caramelized.

    3

In a large bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.

    4

Cut the cold butter into small cubes and use your fingertips or a pastry blender to rub it into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

    5

Let the baked apple cool slightly, then add it to the flour mixture.

    6

In a separate bowl, whisk together the honey, milk, and egg.

    7

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.

    8

On a lightly floured surface, pat the dough into a circle about ¾ inch (2 cm) thick. Cut into triangles or use a round cutter to make scones.

    9

Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown.

    10

Let cool for a few minutes, then serve fresh, drizzled with a little honey or sprinkled with nuts.
