Banana naan bread served

Banana Naan

Naan is traditionally an Indian dish, but its sweet variations offer many possibilities. Banana naan is such a creative fusion, combining the classic bread form with the sweet, creamy texture of ripe bananas. The kitchen fills with the aroma of browning naan and sweet bananas - a truly cozy feeling. The fruit filling hidden in the soft dough is a surprise with every bite. Tip: ripe, but not overripe, bananas are best for this recipe - easy to mash, but still holding their shape. A hot, dry skillet is essential for baking, resulting in perfectly toasted and airy naan. Perfect for a special breakfast, brunch or even as a dessert - you can further enhance the experience with a little cinnamon sugar or maple syrup.

    Preparation Steps

    1

Prepare the ingredients: peel the banana and mash it with a fork in a small bowl. This will be the sweet filling for the naan.

    2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, active dry yeast, sugar, and salt. This ensures the dough has the right structure.

    3

Add the yogurt, olive oil, and lukewarm water to the dry ingredients. Mix to combine, then start kneading.

    4

Knead the dough for about 10 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic. Tip: if it's too sticky, you can add a little flour.

    5

Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

    6

Once risen, divide the dough into 6 equal portions. Form balls, then roll them out into oval shapes about 0.5 cm thick.

    7

Spoon a portion of mashed banana onto one half of the rolled-out naan, then fold the other half over the filling. Gently roll it out again slightly to distribute the filling evenly.

    8

Heat a dry skillet over medium heat. Place the naan in the skillet and cook for 1-2 minutes, until it bubbles and starts to brown.

    9

Flip and cook for another 1 minute. It's ready when brown spots appear on the surface.

    10

Brush the cooked naans with melted butter while still hot, then serve fresh. It's delicious on its own, but even more special with a little cinnamon honey!
