Bara West African bean cakes served

Bara

Bara is a popular West African street food, mainly made from beans. This crispy fritter-like dish is particularly popular in Senegal and Nigeria, and is often eaten for breakfast or as a light snack. The secret to Bara lies in the right seasoning and the perfect oil temperature, which ensures a crispy outside and a soft texture inside. There's nothing better than the smell of freshly baked Bara filling the kitchen at a friendly gathering or as an afternoon snack. To make the perfect Bara, it's important that the dough is thick enough and the oil is not too hot so that the inside cooks through properly.
