Thoroughly rinse the chicken hearts in cold water. Trim off any excess membranes and veins.
In a small bowl, combine the salt, pepper, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and brown sugar.
Place the chicken hearts in a bowl, drizzle with olive oil, and then sprinkle with the spice mixture. Toss well to ensure the hearts are evenly coated.
Preheat your grill to medium heat (about 350°F or 180°C). If baking in the oven, set it to 400°F (200°C) on a convection setting.
Thread the chicken hearts onto skewers, or place them on a grill grate. Cook for about 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally to ensure they cook evenly on all sides.
In a small saucepan, whisk together the BBQ sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and apple cider vinegar. This will be the glaze for the chicken hearts.
During the last 5 minutes of cooking, begin basting the chicken hearts with the BBQ glaze, continuing to cook until they are slightly caramelized.
Remove the chicken hearts from the grill or oven and let them rest for 5 minutes. Serve with fresh vegetables or rice.
