BBQ grilled citrus chili guacamole served

BBQ Grilled Citrus Chili Guacamole

Guacamole is one of the most popular dishes in Mexican cuisine, relying on the creamy texture and refreshing citrus flavor of avocado. Grilled avocado gets an extra smoky aroma, which is further deepened by chili and BBQ sauce. This special version is perfect with tortilla chips, as an accompaniment to grilled meats, or even as a topping for a sandwich.

    Preparation Steps

    1

Halve the avocados, remove the pits, and lightly brush the cut sides with olive oil.

    2

Preheat your grill to medium heat. Place the avocados cut-side down on the grill grates and grill for 3-4 minutes, or until you see slight grill marks.

    3

Remove the avocados from the grill and let them cool slightly. Scoop out the flesh into a bowl.

    4

Finely chop the red onion and garlic, then add them to the bowl with the avocado.

    5

Squeeze in the juice of the lime and half an orange. Add the chili flakes, BBQ sauce, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.

    6

Using a fork, mash the avocado and mix with the other ingredients until you have a creamy, yet slightly chunky, consistency.

    7

Sprinkle with fresh cilantro and serve with tortilla chips, grilled meats, or toast.
