Drain the cooked brown lentils and coarsely mash them with a fork or food processor until slightly chunky.
Finely chop the red onion and garlic, then add them to the lentils.
Sprinkle in the smoked paprika, ground cumin, salt, and pepper. Add the breadcrumbs to achieve the desired consistency.
Add 2 tablespoons of BBQ sauce and the finely chopped parsley, then mix the ingredients well.
Shape the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties. If the mixture is too sticky, add a little more breadcrumbs.
Preheat the grill to medium-high heat and brush both sides of the lentil burgers with a little olive oil.
Place the lentil burgers on the grill and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, until golden brown and slightly crispy.
During the last 2 minutes of grilling, brush both sides with the remaining BBQ sauce and cook for another 1 minute to caramelize.
Serve in fresh buns with lettuce, tomato, and extra BBQ sauce, or enjoy as a standalone dish with a fresh salad.
