Gently rinse the scallops under cold water, then pat them dry with paper towels. It's important to remove any excess moisture from the surface of the scallops for better searing.
In a small bowl, combine the olive oil, finely minced garlic, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. This will be the marinade.
Place the scallops on a shallow plate and brush both sides with the marinade. Let them sit for 10 minutes to absorb the flavors.
Preheat the grill or a grill pan to high heat. It's essential that the grates are hot, so the scallops cook quickly and don't stick.
Place the scallops on the grill and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown and slightly crusty. Avoid overcooking, as they can become rubbery.
When the scallops are almost done, brush them with a little BBQ sauce and let it caramelize on the grill for another 30 seconds.
Remove the scallops from the grill, and before serving, sprinkle with finely chopped parsley and a small pat of butter on top of the still-hot scallops.
