Halve the tomatoes, quarter the onion, and leave the garlic cloves whole. Lightly coat all the ingredients with olive oil.
Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Place the tomatoes, onion, and garlic on the grill grates. Grill for 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are slightly softened and have a lightly smoky flavor.
Remove the grilled vegetables from the grill and let them cool for a few minutes until they are easier to handle.
Finely dice the grilled tomatoes and onion. Mash the grilled garlic into a paste.
In a bowl, combine the diced grilled vegetables, BBQ sauce, finely chopped fresh cilantro, chili flakes, salt, and pepper.
Squeeze in the lime juice and mix the ingredients thoroughly.
Let the salsa rest for 10-15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Serve with tortilla chips or grilled meats.
