Thoroughly wash the tomatoes, then cut them in half. If using smaller cherry tomatoes, you can leave them whole.
In a small bowl, combine the olive oil, minced garlic, balsamic vinegar, salt, and pepper. This will be your marinade.
Brush the tomatoes with the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Let them stand for 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Preheat your grill to medium heat. If using a grill grate, lightly oil it to prevent the tomatoes from sticking.
Place the tomatoes on the grill, cut-side down, and cook for 3-4 minutes, or until slightly softened and lightly charred.
Flip the tomatoes and brush them with BBQ sauce. Cook for another 1-2 minutes, allowing the sauce to slightly caramelize.
Remove the tomatoes from the grill and sprinkle with fresh basil before serving. Serve warm as a side dish or a standalone dish.
