BBQ grilled walnut burger served

BBQ Grilled Walnut Burger

The grilled walnut burger is a unique and nutritious alternative to the classic hamburger. The toasted walnuts add a deep, nutty flavor to the patty, while the cooked brown lentils and breadcrumbs provide excellent texture. Grilling gives it a smoky and slightly crispy exterior, which is further enhanced by the BBQ sauce. This recipe is a perfect choice for vegetarian barbecues, healthy lunches, or a light summer dinner. For an even more exciting flavor profile, try serving it with avocado cream or caramelized onions.

    Preparation Steps

    1

Toast the walnuts in a dry skillet for 2-3 minutes, until lightly golden brown. Let them cool.

    2

Finely chop the red onion and garlic. Sauté them in 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet for 3-4 minutes, until softened.

    3

In a food processor, pulse the toasted walnuts, cooked brown lentils, and sautéed onion and garlic until coarsely ground.

    4

Add the breadcrumbs, soy sauce, smoked paprika, ground cumin, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine.

    5

Form the mixture into 4 equal-sized burger patties. Lightly brush them with olive oil.

    6

Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. If necessary, lightly oil the grill grates.

    7

Place the walnut burger patties on the grill and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown and slightly charred.

    8

During the last 2 minutes of grilling, brush the patties with BBQ sauce. Cook for another 1 minute, allowing the sauce to caramelize.

    9

Serve warm on fresh buns with lettuce, tomato, and extra BBQ sauce, or enjoy as a standalone dish with a fresh salad.
