Pit and finely chop the plums. If using dried plums, soak them in hot water for 5 minutes before chopping.
In a medium saucepan, combine the BBQ sauce, plums, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, smoked paprika, grated ginger, garlic powder, and onion powder.
Cook over medium heat for 7-10 minutes, or until the plums soften and the sauce thickens.
Add the sesame seeds and sesame oil, then stir well to combine.
Use an immersion blender to puree the sauce until smooth. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
Let cool slightly before serving with grilled meats, roasted vegetables, or french fries.
