Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs, if necessary. Rub the ribs with salt, pepper, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and brown sugar. Let it rest for 30 minutes.
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Sear the ribs on both sides until golden brown.
Place the ribs in a baking pan and pour half of the BBQ sauce over them. Cover with aluminum foil.
Bake in a preheated oven at 300°F (150°C) for 2 hours, basting occasionally with the pan juices.
Remove the foil, brush the ribs with the remaining BBQ sauce. Increase the oven temperature to 390°F (200°C) and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until the sauce is caramelized.
Serve the ribs with fresh vegetables, french fries, or coleslaw. Garnish with fresh herbs.
