BBQ smoked shrimp with fresh herbs

BBQ Smoked Shrimp

Smoked shrimp is one of the most popular seafood dishes, enjoyed worldwide. It's a favorite in American BBQ culture and Mediterranean cuisine, as it's quick to prepare and offers a fantastic flavor experience. The smoky, slightly sweet flavor of BBQ sauce perfectly harmonizes with the natural aromas of shrimp. This dish is an ideal choice for barbecues, family dinners, or a quick but special meal. The proper smoking technique ensures that the shrimp is slightly crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside.

    Preparation Steps

    1

Thoroughly rinse the shrimp in cold water, then pat them dry with paper towels. If using shrimp with shells, halve them lengthwise to allow the marinade to penetrate better.

    2

In a small bowl, combine the olive oil, BBQ sauce, garlic powder, smoked paprika, brown sugar, honey, lemon juice, salt, and pepper.

    3

Place the cleaned shrimp in a large bowl and pour the BBQ marinade over them. Toss well to coat, then let them marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

    4

Preheat your smoker to 212-230°F (100-110°C). Distribute the charcoal or wood evenly in the smoker to ensure consistent smoke.

    5

Place the marinated shrimp on a rack in the smoker and smoke for 30-45 minutes, or until the flesh is opaque and cooked through.

    6

During the last 10 minutes, lightly brush them with extra BBQ sauce and continue smoking for a few more minutes, allowing the glaze to caramelize slightly.

    7

Remove the smoked shrimp from the smoker and sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley.

    8

Serve warm with lemon wedges, a fresh salad, or grilled vegetables. Excellent with toasted bread or garlic butter as well.
