Rinse the rice in cold water to remove excess starch.
In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the garlic powder and smoked paprika, and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
Add the rice and toast for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, until lightly toasted.
Add 500 ml of water, salt, pepper, and soy sauce, then stir to combine.
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 12-15 minutes, or until the rice is tender and has absorbed all the water.
Once the rice is cooked, stir in the BBQ sauce and let it rest, covered, for 5 minutes.
Before serving, garnish with chopped green onions and serve warm.
