Black Pepper and Garlic Pretzels

Black Pepper and Garlic Pretzels are an exciting and savory twist on the classic Bavarian pretzel. The distinctive, slightly spicy flavor of black pepper and the fresh, fragrant garlic complement each other perfectly. This recipe combines traditional techniques with modern flavors and is an excellent choice if you want to surprise your guests or family with something special in the way of salty pastries. They are best served fresh, but are still delicious the next day - especially when served with a little butter or cheese sauce.

    Preparation Steps

    1

In a large bowl, combine the flour, dry yeast, sugar, and salt. Add the lukewarm water and melted butter. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic.

    2

Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

    3

Divide the risen dough into 8 equal portions. Roll each portion into a long rope and shape it into a pretzel.

    4

Bring 1 liter of water to a boil. Remove from heat and stir in the baking soda. This step helps to create a crispy crust.

    5

Dip each pretzel into the baking soda water for 30 seconds, then place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

    6

Crush the garlic cloves and mix with a little melted butter. Brush the pretzels with the garlic butter, then sprinkle with freshly ground black pepper.

    7

Bake the pretzels in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown. Serve warm for the best taste.
