Peel and finely chop the onions.
Heat the olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat.
Add the chopped onions and a pinch of salt. Cook for 10-12 minutes, or until the onions are caramelized and golden brown.
Once the onions are ready, add the brown sugar and stir until it melts and caramelizes.
Pour in the apple cider vinegar, grated garlic, barbecue sauce, and a pinch of black pepper. Mix well to combine.
Simmer over low heat for 10 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and the flavors to meld together.
Remove from the heat and let cool slightly. Serve the sauce with grilled meats or vegetables.
