    Preparation Steps

    1

Warm the milk slightly and crumble the yeast into it. Add one teaspoon of sugar, and let it proof for 10 minutes.

    2

In a bowl, combine the flour, remaining sugar, salt, and cardamom. Add the proofed yeast mixture, the egg, and the melted butter. Knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic.

    3

Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

    4

Once the dough has risen, divide it into 12 equal portions and shape each into a pretzel.

    5

Place the pretzels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and let them rise for another 15 minutes.

    6

Brush the pretzels with beaten egg, then sprinkle with brown sugar. This will create a delicious, caramelized layer on top.

    7

Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.

    8

Let the pretzels cool on a wire rack before serving. The spicy flavor of cardamom and the caramelized sugar make a perfect combination.
