Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and flour a rectangular cake pan.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder.
In another bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time.
Stir in the vanilla extract and milk, then gradually add the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool completely in the pan.
For the frosting, whip the heavy cream and powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
Cut the cooled cake into the shape of a car. Frost the top and sides with the whipped cream frosting to create a smooth base.
Cover the cake with red fondant. Shape black fondant into wheels.
Use white fondant to create the windshield, headlights, and other details. Attach these to the cake using edible glue.
Decorate the cake with edible car decorations and yellow stripes to create a race car effect.
Refrigerate the cake for at least one hour to allow the decorations to set before serving.
