Cheese Pogácsa is a pastry that makes every morning special. The unique combination of soft, buttery dough and rich cheese filling guarantees the perfect taste. The special thing about Pogácsa is that it is most delicious when fresh and lukewarm, which is why it is often eaten for breakfast or as a snack, even with a cup of tea. Cheese Pogácsa is a staple in Hungarian bakeries and cafes, as everyone loves this soft and mouth-watering treat.
Preparing Pogácsa is not too complicated, but it requires a lot of patience to make the dough as soft as possible. A real Hungarian delicacy that is happily prepared not only at home, but for any occasion.
Activate the yeast in lukewarm milk with sugar.
Crumble the flour and butter together. Add the activated yeast, sour cream, eggs, salt, and half of the grated cheese.
Knead the dough until smooth, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
On a floured surface, roll out the risen dough to about 1 cm (1/2 inch) thickness and cut out circles using a pogácsa cutter or cookie cutter.
Brush the tops with beaten egg and sprinkle with the remaining grated cheese.
Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
