Juicy chicken paprikash in a creamy paprika sauce, served on a white plate.

Chicken Paprikash (Chicken Thighs in Paprika Sauce)

Chicken Paprikash is one of the most well-known and beloved Hungarian dishes. The tender meat of the chicken thighs is enveloped in a rich, spicy pörkölt-based sauce, where the flavor of paprika and the rich aroma of garlic explode in every bite. Chicken Paprikash is the heart of Hungarian cuisine, effortlessly bringing the flavors of the countryside to your home.

In making Chicken Paprikash, the chicken thighs are first seared, then the pörkölt base is made with garlic, onions, and Hungarian sweet paprika, ensuring the chicken is succulent and mouthwatering. The dish is an ideal choice for a satisfying lunch and is best served with fresh bread or Hungarian dumplings (nokedli) to soak up the rich sauce.
