Chocolate bagel served

Chocolate Bagels

The bagel is one of the most well-known baked goods, originally from 17th century Poland, and has become popular worldwide over the centuries. The chocolate version is a modern innovation that combines the softness of a classic bagel with the sweet taste of chocolate. Homemade chocolate bagels are an especially good choice for breakfast or a snack, being crispy on the outside and soft and richly chocolatey on the inside. To make it even more special, spread a little cream cheese or peanut butter on it, which further enhances the taste experience!

    Preparation Steps

    1

Prepare the ingredients. In a large bowl, measure out the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Mix thoroughly.

    2

Add the warm water and begin kneading the dough. Once the dough starts to come together, add the melted butter and continue kneading for about 10 minutes, until you have a smooth and elastic dough.

    3

Cover the dough with a kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

    4

Punch down the risen dough, then divide it into 8 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball, then use your finger to poke a hole in the center and shape them into bagels.

    5

Let the shaped bagels rest for another 15 minutes. Meanwhile, heat a large pot of water and add a little honey.

    6

Drop the bagels into the boiling water one at a time, and cook them for about 30 seconds on each side. This helps them develop a shiny and crispy crust.

    7

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the cooked bagels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and sprinkle with cocoa powder or grated chocolate.

    8

Bake the bagels for about 20 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.

    9

Let them cool, then serve fresh, with melted chocolate or cream cheese!
