Chocolate Fondant Cake with a molten center

Chocolate Fondant Cake

The chocolate fondant cake, also known as lava cake, became popular in French cuisine in the 1980s. The name refers to the hot, molten chocolate hidden inside, which flows out with the first bite. This dessert is a favorite among chocolate lovers, as it is slightly crunchy on the outside and creamy and soft on the inside. It is the perfect choice for special occasions and as a quickly prepared dessert.

    Preparation Steps

    1

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease and flour small baking molds or ramekins.

    2

Melt the dark chocolate and butter over a double boiler, then stir until smooth.

    3

In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs with the sugar until light and fluffy.

    4

Sift in the flour, cocoa powder, and salt, then gently fold into the egg mixture.

    5

Pour in the melted chocolate mixture and stir until you have a smooth batter.

    6

Fill the molds about three-quarters full to allow room for the cake to rise.

    7

Bake for 8-10 minutes, until the edges are set but the center remains soft and molten.

    8

Remove from the oven, let cool for 1-2 minutes, then carefully invert onto a plate.

    9

Serve immediately, sprinkled with powdered sugar or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
