The Chocolate muffin is one of the most popular American pastries, which quickly conquered the world, and has now become a staple of every pastry shop and household. The history of the dish dates back to the mid-20th century, when American housewives began looking for quick and easy pastries to enjoy with their morning coffee or as a snack.
The basis of muffins is a soft dough, richly filled with chocolate pieces, making every bite a real chocolate experience. Chocolate muffins are easy to make, but a little twist can give them uniqueness, such as a little vanilla, cinnamon or even dried fruit. The dish is not only delicious, but also extremely varied, as the combination of chocolate and dough can be varied in countless ways.
In a large bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
In a separate bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract and milk.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
Fold in the chopped dark chocolate. Spoon the batter into muffin liners, filling each about two-thirds full.
Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let the muffins cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Serve and enjoy!
