Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Sift together the flour, baking powder, and cinnamon. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
Stir in the sour cream to create a smoother batter.
Pour the batter into a greased and floured cake pan, spreading it evenly. Sprinkle the fresh or frozen cherries evenly over the top of the batter.
Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C) for approximately 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
While the cake is cooling, prepare the glaze: mix together the cherry jam and powdered sugar. Spread a layer of the glaze over the top of the cooled cake.
Before serving, garnish the cake with fresh cherries or a dusting of cinnamon.
