Thoroughly wash the orange and slice it into thin rounds.
Pour the red wine and water into a large saucepan and heat over medium heat.
Add the brown sugar or honey and stir until completely dissolved.
Add the cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, and nutmeg. Add the orange slices as well.
Simmer the drink over low heat, being careful not to boil it. Let it warm for about 15-20 minutes to allow the spices to infuse well.
Strain out the spices and orange slices, then pour the drink into glasses or mugs.
Garnish with a cinnamon stick or an orange slice on the rim of the glass. Serve immediately and enjoy the warming flavors!
