In a large bowl, combine the ground beef with salt, black pepper, and Worcestershire sauce.
Divide the meat into four equal portions and form into thick patties. Make sure they are slightly larger than the buns, as they will shrink during cooking.
Heat a skillet or grill to medium-high heat and lightly brush with olive oil.
Cook the patties for about 3-4 minutes per side, until nicely browned. For a medium-rare burger, cook for an additional 2 minutes per side.
During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each patty and let it melt.
Halve the hamburger buns and lightly toast them in a dry skillet or on the grill.
Spread mayonnaise on the bottom half of each bun, then top with a lettuce leaf.
Place the cheesy patty on top, followed by tomato slices, onion rings, and pickle slices.
Drizzle with ketchup and mustard, then top with the other half of the bun.
Serve immediately with French fries or coleslaw.
