Pour the red wine and water into a medium saucepan.
Halve the orange, squeeze out the juice and add it to the wine. You can also add the orange peel for extra aroma.
Add the cinnamon sticks, cloves, nutmeg, and star anise (if using).
Start heating over low heat, but do not boil! Let it warm slowly for 10-15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Once it is pleasantly warm and the aromas have been released, stir in the honey.
Strain the drink to remove the spices and orange peel.
Serve warm in heat-resistant glasses or mugs, and enjoy the festive atmosphere!
