Warm the milk, crumble the yeast into it, add a teaspoon of sugar, and let it proof for 10 minutes.
In a bowl, combine the flour, the remaining sugar, and salt. Add the proofed yeast mixture, the egg, and the melted butter. Knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic.
Mix the coffee into the dough until evenly distributed.
Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Once the dough has risen, divide it into 12 equal pieces and shape them into pretzel shapes.
Place the pretzels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and let them rise for another 15 minutes.
Brush the pretzels with beaten egg and sprinkle with brown sugar. This will create a delicious caramelized layer on top of the pretzels.
Bake the pretzels in a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
