Drain the tofu and pat it dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Cut into approximately 2 cm cubes. Tip: The drier the tofu, the crispier it will be after frying.
In a bowl, toss the tofu cubes in soy sauce, then dredge them in cornstarch, ensuring each side is lightly coated.
Heat the oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Carefully add the tofu pieces and fry for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy. Avoid overcrowding the skillet.
Remove the fried tofu and place it on paper towels to absorb excess oil, then sprinkle with sesame seeds. Tip: You can lightly toast the sesame seeds in a dry skillet beforehand for a more intense flavor.
Steam the bao buns: place them in a bamboo or metal steamer over boiling water and steam for 5-6 minutes, until softened and heated through.
Carefully open the bao buns and fill them with the crispy sesame tofu. Serve immediately while the tofu is still crispy!
