Dice the cold butter and add it to the flour mixture. Use your fingertips to rub the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Add the toasted flaxseed to the dough and mix thoroughly.
In a separate bowl, whisk the egg and milk together. Gradually add the egg mixture to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
Shape the dough into a disc and place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Slightly flatten the top and use a sharp knife to score a cross shape into the surface.
Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C) for 15-20 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown.
