Freshly baked garlic pretzel

Garlic Pretzels

The garlic pretzel is a flavored variation of the classic Bavarian pastry, with an added Hungarian twist. The intense aroma and flavor of garlic go fantastically with the crispy outside and soft inside of the pretzel dough. The baking soda bath and garlic butter together create a special, shiny, flavorful crust. This pretzel is ideal as a beer snack, for entertaining guests, or as a snack – it's best served warm and fresh. An excellent choice for all garlic lovers.

    Preparation Steps

    1

In a large bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Add the lukewarm water and melted butter, then mix until a dough forms.

    2

Knead the dough by hand or with a dough hook for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover with a kitchen towel and let rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

    3

Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope and shape into classic pretzel shapes.

    4

In a large pot, bring 1 liter of water to a boil. Remove from heat and carefully stir in the baking soda (it will fizz!).

    5

Dip each pretzel into the baking soda water for 30 seconds, then place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

    6

Crush the garlic cloves, mix with a little melted butter, and brush the mixture over the tops of the pretzels. This ensures an intense garlic flavor and a shiny surface.

    7

Bake the pretzels in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 15-18 minutes, until golden brown. Serve fresh and warm.
