Freshly baked green bean calzone

Green Bean Calzone

Calzone is one of the most well-known stuffed pizzas in Italian cuisine, prepared with a variety of fillings. This green bean version is a healthier, more refreshing take that combines the earthy flavor of green beans with creamy sour cream and melted mozzarella. Parmesan adds a little extra character, while garlic and nutmeg deepen the flavors. If you like light but nutritious foods, this calzone is a great choice! Tip: After baking, sprinkle with some fresh basil or parsley for an even more intense flavor.

    Preparation Steps

    1

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). If using store-bought pizza dough, let it rest at room temperature for 10 minutes to make it easier to roll out.

    2

On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough to about 3-4 mm thick. Shape it into a large circle, then cut it in half.

    3

Cut the green beans into smaller pieces and blanch them in boiling salted water for 5 minutes. Then, drain well.

    4

Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the finely chopped garlic and sauté for 1 minute, then stir in the blanched green beans.

    5

In a bowl, combine the sour cream with salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Add this mixture to the sautéed green beans and stir to combine.

    6

Grate the mozzarella cheese and mix it with the Parmesan cheese. Sprinkle over the green bean mixture.

    7

Place the filling on one half of the dough, then fold the other half over to cover. Use a fork to press down the edges to seal the calzone well.

    8

In a small bowl, whisk the egg and brush it over the top of the calzone to help it turn golden brown during baking.

    9

Place the calzone on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown.

    10

After baking, let it cool slightly, then drizzle with a little olive oil and serve warm.
