Ground beef and cheddar cheese cannelloni served

Ground Beef and Cheddar Cannelloni

Imagine the aroma of freshly baked cannelloni filling the kitchen as the cheese turns golden brown on top. Cannelloni originated in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy, where stuffed pasta has been made for centuries. It became truly widespread throughout Europe in the 20th century and is now one of the world's best-known baked pasta dishes. The combination of ground beef and cheddar complements the classic tomato base with a modern, rich flavor. The secret to perfect cannelloni is the correct preparation of the pasta and the consistency of the filling – not too dry, but not too runny! This dish is an ideal choice for a family Sunday lunch or special occasions. As a variation, you can use ground turkey or add basil to the sauce to make the Italian flavor even more intense.

    Preparation Steps

    1

Prepare all the ingredients: finely chop the onion and garlic. Grate the cheddar cheese, and prepare the cannelloni tubes (dry).

    2

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for 3-4 minutes, until translucent.

    3

Add the garlic, stir, and after 1 minute, add the ground beef. Cook for 8-10 minutes, until the meat is completely browned.

    4

Stir in the tomato paste, then season with salt, pepper, and oregano. Cook for another 3-4 minutes. Tip: If it's too thick, you can add a little tomato sauce.

    5

Remove the skillet from the heat, then stir in half of the grated cheddar cheese. The cheese will melt and make the filling creamy, making it easier to fill the cannelloni.

    6

Lightly grease a baking dish, then start filling the cannelloni tubes with the meat and cheese filling. Tip: Use a small spoon or a piping bag for easier filling!

    7

Place the filled pasta tubes in the baking dish side by side, then pour the tomato sauce over them. Sprinkle the remaining grated cheddar on top.

    8

Cover with aluminum foil and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C) for 25 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for another 10 minutes, until the cheese is golden brown.

    9

Once done, let it rest for 5-10 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley. Tip: Resting helps to serve the slices more neatly!
