Lángos is a true Hungarian staple that has been a part of our cuisine for centuries. This deep-fried flatbread is most often topped with garlic sour cream, grated cheese, and various other toppings. The result is crispy and fluffy. A real experience for every bite. Lángos is a true street food, and many families make it together as a shared activity.
This classic dish is a staple at summer festivals, markets, and other events. Making lángos is simple, but using high-quality dough and fresh ingredients highlights the flavors. There is no single 'correct' version of lángos, as everyone prepares it according to their own taste, but the basic ingredients and crispy exterior always remain.
Crumble the yeast into the lukewarm water, add the sugar, and let it bloom for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.
In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and knead until you have a smooth and elastic dough.
Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 30-40 minutes, or until doubled in size.
Divide the dough into smaller portions and stretch each portion into a round shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
Heat the oil in a large skillet or deep fryer over medium-high heat. Fry the lángos until golden brown on both sides.
Serve hot with sour cream and grated cheese.
