    Preparation Steps

    1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and line a 9-inch (22 cm) cake pan with parchment paper.

    2

Cream together the butter, sugar, and vanilla sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg yolks one at a time, mixing well after each addition.

    3

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and ground walnuts. Gradually fold this dry mixture into the butter mixture.

    4

In a clean bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the egg whites into the batter, being careful not to deflate it.

    5

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool completely in the pan before frosting.

    6

Prepare the cream: whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar until stiff peaks form. Spread the whipped cream evenly over the top of the cooled cake.

    7

Decorate the cake with a dusting of powdered sugar and chopped walnuts.

    8

Refrigerate the cake for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
