Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Line a cake pan with parchment paper, or grease and flour it.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder.
In another bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk and vanilla extract. Mix until just combined.
Grate the marzipan paste and gently fold it into the batter.
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool completely.
Meanwhile, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Grate a little extra marzipan into the whipped cream for added flavor.
Frost the top and sides of the cooled cake with the whipped cream. Sprinkle with grated dark chocolate and marzipan shavings.
