    Preparation Steps

    1

Prepare the pizza dough: if using store-bought dough, let it rest at room temperature for 20 minutes. If making homemade dough, knead and proof according to the recipe instructions.

    2

Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté the finely chopped onion and minced garlic until softened. Add the ground meat, season with salt and pepper, and cook until browned and cooked through. Stir in the Italian seasoning.

    3

Roll out the pizza dough into a thin circle. Spread a thin layer of tomato sauce over one half of the dough.

    4

Spoon the cooked ground meat filling over the tomato sauce, sprinkle with grated mozzarella cheese, then fold the other half of the dough over to create a half-moon shape. Press the edges firmly to seal.

    5

Brush the top of the calzone with beaten egg and poke a few holes to allow steam to escape during baking.

    6

Place the calzone on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.

    7

Serve hot with a fresh salad or extra tomato sauce for dipping.
