Shape the ropes into rings, then blanch them in boiling water for 20-30 seconds until they firm up slightly.
Remove the blanched rings, drain them well, and sprinkle with poppy seeds or sesame seeds.
Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.
Fry the dough rings until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
Transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Serve fresh, lightly salted or with your favorite sweet toppings.
