Orange and marzipan scone served

Orange and Marzipan Scones

The special pairing of orange and marzipan meets in a truly refined and elegant scone. Fresh orange zest lends a refreshing citrus aroma, while the sweet, almond notes of marzipan make the pastry silky smooth. HINT: For an even more intense flavor experience, add a little orange juice to the dough. Cut the marzipan into smaller pieces, if possible, so that it is evenly distributed in the scone. This orange and marzipan scone is the perfect choice with a cup of black tea or cappuccino, and is an excellent choice for festive occasions as well.

    Preparation Steps

    1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

    2

In a large bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, baking powder, salt, and grated orange zest.

    3

Dice the cold butter and cut it into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

    4

Cut the marzipan into small pieces and fold it into the flour mixture.

    5

In a separate bowl, whisk together the honey, milk, and egg.

    6

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined into a soft dough.

    7

On a lightly floured surface, pat the dough to about ¾ inch (2 cm) thickness, then cut into triangles or rounds.

    8

Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown.

    9

Let cool for a few minutes before serving fresh with a drizzle of honey or orange marmalade.
