Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and lightly flour a 9-inch (22 cm) cake pan.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and grated orange zest until well combined. This ensures the dry ingredients are evenly distributed.
In another bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and vanilla sugar until light and fluffy.
Add the eggs one at a time to the butter mixture, mixing well after each addition. This helps to keep the batter light and airy.
Gradually add the dry ingredients and milk to the butter-egg mixture, alternating between the two and mixing continuously until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, to avoid a tough cake.
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread evenly with a spatula.
Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Avoid opening the oven during the first 30 minutes, as this may cause the cake to collapse.
Once baked, let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Before serving, dust with powdered sugar and slice. Excellent with a cup of hot tea or coffee.
