    Preparation Steps

    1

In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and dry yeast.

    2

Warm the milk until lukewarm, then add the melted butter, orange juice, and grated orange zest.

    3

Whisk the eggs and add them to the wet ingredients. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and knead until you get a smooth, elastic dough.

    4

Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

    5

On a floured surface, roll out the risen dough to about 1 cm thickness. Use a glass to cut out circles. Use a smaller cutter to cut out the center of each circle.

    6

Heat the oil in a large saucepan to 340°F (170°C). Fry the doughnuts until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side.

    7

Place the fried doughnuts on paper towels to drain excess oil.

    8

Before serving, sprinkle the doughnuts with powdered sugar and decorate with orange zest or chocolate sauce, if desired.
