Break the dark chocolate into pieces and add it to the warm milk mixture. Stir constantly until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.
Add the grated orange zest, freshly squeezed orange juice, honey, ground cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Stir well to combine.
Let the hot chocolate simmer over low heat for another 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
Pour into mugs and garnish with whipped cream and chocolate shavings, if desired.
