Peel the bananas and slice them thinly. Tip: Use ripe, but not overripe bananas – they won't be too soft and will be easier to handle when serving.
Place the bao buns in a steamer lined with parchment paper and steam them over boiling water for 5-6 minutes, or until completely soft. Do not lift the lid during steaming to avoid interrupting the process.
Carefully open the softened bao buns and spread 1 tablespoon of peanut butter inside each. If the peanut butter is too thick, you can mix it with a little warm water or honey beforehand to make it more spreadable.
Arrange the banana slices on top of the peanut butter. Don't add too many, so the bao bun doesn't fall apart, but ensure there's fruit in every bite.
Serve immediately while fresh, or let rest in a cool place for 10 minutes – this will allow the peanut butter to firm up slightly and the filling to bind together better.
