Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Line a 9-inch (22 cm) tart pan with parchment paper.
Peel, core, and thinly slice the pears.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt.
In another bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Then, add the milk and mix until you have a smooth batter.
Pour the batter into the prepared tart pan. Arrange the pear slices on top in a spiral pattern.
Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let the tart cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove it and place it on a wire rack to cool completely.
Before serving, dust with powdered sugar and garnish with fresh pear slices or whipped cream.
