Freshly baked pineapple and smoked ham calzone

Pineapple and Smoked Ham Calzone

The calzone originally comes from Southern Italy, and is one of the most popular stuffed variations of pizza. This pineapple and smoked ham version is a special twist on the classic recipe, reminiscent of the famous Hawaiian pizza, but in an even crispier, more flavorful form. The salty, characteristic taste of smoked ham harmonizes perfectly with the sweet, juicy pineapple, while the tomato sauce and melted mozzarella cheese bring the flavors together. If you love sweet and savory combinations, this calzone is guaranteed to be your favorite! Tip: For an even richer flavor, drizzle a little honey on top after baking.

    Preparation Steps

    1

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). If using store-bought pizza dough, let it rest at room temperature for 10 minutes to make it easier to roll out.

    2

On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough to about 1/8 inch (3-4 mm) thickness. Shape it into a large circle and cut it in half.

    3

In a bowl, combine the tomato sauce with the finely chopped garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper.

    4

Cut the smoked ham into thin strips and the pineapple into small cubes.

    5

For the filling, evenly spread the tomato sauce mixture on one half of each dough circle. Distribute the smoked ham and pineapple over the sauce.

    6

Grate the mozzarella cheese and sprinkle it on top of the filling.

    7

Fold the other half of the dough over the filling and press the edges together with a fork to seal the calzone tightly.

    8

In a small bowl, whisk the egg and brush it over the top of the calzone to ensure a beautiful golden-brown crust.

    9

Place the calzone on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown.

    10

After baking, let it cool slightly, then drizzle with a little olive oil and serve warm.
