    Preparation Steps

    1

Warm the milk slightly, crumble in the yeast, add a teaspoon of sugar, and let it proof for 10 minutes.

    2

In a bowl, combine the flour, the remaining sugar, and the salt. Add the proofed yeast mixture, the egg, and the melted butter. Knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic.

    3

Add the poppy seeds to the dough and knead well to distribute them evenly.

    4

Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

    5

Once the dough has risen, divide it into 12 equal portions and shape them into pretzel shapes.

    6

Place the pretzels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and let them rise for another 15 minutes.

    7

Puree the cherries and mix them with a little sugar, then place a small amount in the center of each pretzel. Fold the edges of the dough over the filling to prevent it from leaking during baking.

    8

Brush the pretzels with beaten egg and sprinkle with brown sugar. This will create a delicious, caramelized layer on top of the pretzels.

    9

Bake the pretzels in a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.

    10

Let the pretzels cool on a wire rack before serving. The poppy seeds and cherries are a perfect combination in this sweet yeasted treat.
