Pork belly buns served

Pork Belly Buns

Pork belly buns are a classic Asian street food, especially popular in Taiwan and China. The soft, fluffy texture of the steamed bao bun perfectly complements the juicy, tender pork belly and fresh vegetables. This dish is often flavored with hoisin sauce, which gives it a sweet and slightly salty flavor. It is an ideal choice for gatherings with friends, as it is easy to prepare, visually appealing, and extremely delicious.

    Preparation Steps

    1

Cut the pork belly into larger pieces. Heat sesame oil in a pot and sear the pork belly on all sides until golden brown.

    2

Add the sliced garlic, ginger, soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, and water. Simmer over low heat for 1.5 hours, or until the pork is tender and juicy.

    3

Prepare the bao buns. If using frozen ones, steam them according to the package instructions.

    4

Slice the cucumber into thin slices and prepare the fresh cilantro.

    5

Once the pork is cooked, remove it from the pot and slice it into thin strips. Reduce the cooking liquid until it thickens into a sauce.

    6

Open the bao buns and spread hoisin sauce inside. Place a slice or two of pork belly, cucumber, and cilantro inside.

    7

Serve the pork belly buns immediately, warm, with extra hoisin sauce on the side.
